Telford and Wrekin Community groups celebrate receiving Veolia EnviroGrant
£15,000 has been given to community groups by Telford & Wrekin Council’s waste and recycling partner Veolia. Groups showcased their project plans to fellow awardees at a celebration event at Randlay Community Centre this week.
Groups enjoyed networking and hearing about other community groups’ grant projects at the event hosted by Veolia and Telford & Wrekin Council. The funding came through the Veolia EnviroGrant, which is part of the waste contract secured by Telford & Wrekin Council.
Projects receiving grants this year include a community orchard, a school allotment and a woodwork project to name just a few. Hadley and District Male Voice Choir are using their grant to landscape a roundabout in Hadley, creating a haven for wildlife and a pleasant space for the community to see. Meanwhile, local charity, Challenging Perceptions will be purchasing sensory equipment for their facility at Park Lane centre in Woodside.
EnviroGrant supports community groups with grants of up to £1,000 for projects that benefit the local community or the environment.
Each year, as part of the added value secured through the Waste Contract Veolia supports a number of different projects to the community in Telford and Wrekin. In addition to EnviroGrant, this year the company has also supported the Telford Crisis Support and Telford Repair Cafe.

Through the grants we can further Veolia’s purpose of ecological transformation and uphold our value of community. Since 2014 Veolia has given more than £200,000 to benefit local community projects and initiatives across Telford and Wrekin through EnviroGrant and other initiatives.”
Councillor Lee Carter, Telford & Wrekin Council Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood, Commercial Services and Regeneration, said: “Once again, this year’s EnviroGrant scheme is shining a light on the fantastic work that community groups are doing across Telford and Wrekin. These projects will not only support the mental and physical health of residents, but also encourage lots of fun and friendship, and will help make our borough greener too – what a super use of this funding.”
